La Union is dope!

La union is known as the “Surf Capital” of the north region of the Philippines, where both locals and foreigners come to catch some waves.

But let me get this out of the way, I don’t surf!

Regardless, there’s still other things to do in La Union. The vibe of the town alone keeps me entertained without having to get in the water. Just the other day, we rented a tricycle to take us to Tangadan Waterfalls. As expected, we made quite a scene passing through little neighborhoods with our Rihanna, Justin Biebs, and Bey playlist on blast on that whip.

La Union definitely has that energy, backpacker community, and nightlife that reminds of Boracay and El Nido. It’s quite the difference of atmosphere from my other previous destinations in Luzon on this trip. Unlike other destinations in Luzon  where you might feel isolated as a solo traveler, La Union has that social vibe from the hostels, quirky restaurants, and acitivities that makes it very easy to meet other travelers alike.

I’ve been here for three days and have met some awesome travelers, both Filipinos and foreigners alike. Some of the backpackers I’ve met so far in the hostel I’ve stayed at are from Germany, France (no surprise there), Finland, The Netherlands, Morocco, Israel, Poland, the States, Korea (plenty!), and Japan.

I still have a couple days left here (leaving January 1st back to Manila), but I’m already thinking of coming back here real quick!!

Lookout for a complete review shortly!

Until then, I hope everyone is having a great holiday season and ready to start the New Year!

Much love
Mick
