The Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Five-Star Hotel Experience

Initial Impressions

In many cases when I stay in bigger, well-known hotels, I tend to feel like I could be anywhere in the world as the settings are very similar: nice lobby, modern rooms with comfy bed, and a sizable shower + bath.

But this is far from the case at the in Nusa Dua, Bali. The moment you enter the lobby, you immediately feel as if you are somewhere exotic, somewhere special. The grand staircase in the lobby makes a great impression by the sheer scale of the woodcarving. I knew right away that I was gonna have some pretty jealous friends and family back home the moment they see my pics from Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua.

After checking-in, I was given a tour around the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua property. While walking around, I had a feeling I may not see a lot of Bali for the next few days because the resort has soooooo many that can easily get me preoccupied. I mean:

The SHORT WALK to the beach!!

The SHORT WALK to the POOL!!

The highly acclaimed Sunday Brunch at KWEE ZEEN!!

The SPA!

…and the list goes on

The LAGOON POOL which is directly accessible from the private balcony of my room, and gives direct access to the POOL BAR!!

I stayed in a LuxuryRoom that has access to Club Millésime – an exclusive lounge where in an unlikely event that you want to take a break from the sun, pool, and the beach, and do something completely un-Bali like (i.e. read books and play video games….), this lounge is ready for your disposal.

After I was given the tour, I immediately thought I pulled an amateur move for only arranging 2 nights and three days at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua. I say that you need a bare minimum of 4-5 days to have ample time to enjoy Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua and its’ surrounding areas have to offer !

The Room

One word: SEXY.

The moment I entered through the door, there was this elegant fragrance that (I kid you not) tickled every sensation in my body, which ultimately set the tone/the vibe of the room. If I recall correctly, it was a crisp, clean, and woodsy scent which complemented the exotic location of the resort, but also had undertones that resonated with the Sofitel brand: elegance with a touch of French flair (aka SEXY!). I remember getting excited every time I entered the room just because of this alluring scent!

And let’s talk about the bathroom.  It’s an open-concept design that basically amplifies the space of the room. I particularly enjoyed this because of the deep soaking tub visibly nestled in the middle of the room, almost calling my name every time I walked pass it.  And the open-concept of the bathroom gives it almost a voyeuristic feel to it (SEXY). But worry not, if you are not traveling solo and prefer some privacy (but where’s the fun in that?!), there are wooden sliding doors for your disposal.

The Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Luxury Room also has a cozy salon area complete with a chic sofa and wooden coffee table, stacked with your welcome amenities (i.e. macarons and chocolates!) and a hand written welcome letter from the General Manager (Merci beaucoup, Sylvain!). This is a nice touch and made me feel like I was right at home.

Probably my favorite part of the Luxury Room is the balcony with the direct access to the pool lagoon. The balcony comes with two fancy chairs that I used to chill and lounge while listening to my Spotify playlist and watching the occasional swimmers passing by. I think I used this door more so than I used the front door with my frequent visit to the pool bar – which was literally a 30 second swim from my room to the bar.

So to sum up everything about this room …. SEXY!

The Staff

Well, it goes without saying the staff at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua was so hospitable and gave first class treatment the moment I checked-in until I checked-out. But what I loved and remember the most was being greeted with “Bonjour” at any moment and at any time I passed a Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua staff.

But just for kicks and giggles, I was greeted with “Bonjour” by one of the staff while walking around the Sofitel Nusa Dua Bali property, and I proceeded to reply back with “Bonjour” and continued speaking in French to the staff. Her expression immediately had a slight worried look, but I laughed it off and told her I was just joking. 😛

I quickly touched on Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua’s Club Millésime earlier, an exclusive lounge designed for the executive traveler. This lounge really carries the Sofitel brand: a new level of luxury which reflects the brand’s combination of French elegance and flair with seamless blend of Balinese culture.

Below are some of the benefits of being a Club Millésime guest:

There’s usually only two places where you’ll find me when I stay in resorts, either chilling at the pool, or eating at the restaurant. So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua’s L’OH Pool Bar, where I can eat and chill at the pool at the same time. This is where I usually spend much of my afternoon – eating my lobster sandwich while sipping on a couple (or a few) mojitos and meeting new friends.

On my first day at Sofitel Bali, I asked this mother-daughter traveling from Perth, Australia if they can take a picture of me at the pool while gorging on my food and drinks. We clicked instantly and basically adopted me for the remainder of my stay at Sofitel.

Aside from the L’Oh Pool Bar, my favorite dining experience was waking up every morning and feasting on the Breakfast Buffet at KWEE ZEEN. It’s a fantastic all-day dining restaurant at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua where buffet is served from every cuisine (or kwee zeen) you can imagine is served between 630-1030 am.

Since I was in Indonesia, I made an effort to only eat the typical Indonesian breakfast (bubur ayam and nasi uduk are my go-to’s), but there was SO MUCH delicious and mouth-watering food to try that I had my Indonesian breakfast PLUS a Western type breakfast all beautifully laid out on my table.

I also particularly enjoyed the seating configuration and overall ambiance of KWEE ZEEN. The presentation of the extensive food selection from a wide-range of world class cuisine really boosted my appetite (hence why I couldn’t just stick to my ONLY Indonesian food rule).

And what better way to enjoy this endless amount of delicious breakfast than dining outdoor, sipping on my freshly squeezed fruit juice while surrounded by a beautifully landscaped garden.

And then there’s the highly acclaimed Sunday Brunch. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, because….

Not to Miss

This was another unforgettable experience while staying at this resort – getting pampered at the Sofitel SoSpa. Whenever I’m in Asia, I tend to get plenty of massages (more so when I’m in the U.S. or Europe) and come out of it fully satisfied and relaxed. However, I don’t remember from any massages that I’ve ever gotten where I was knocked out within 5 minutes of laying on the massage table.

The downside to this is that I don’t remember much of the massage itself. I’m not sure if it was the euphoric massage oil that I chose before starting my massage, or the magic touch of my masseuse that caused me to quickly doze off. The next thing I remembered was when she gently tapped on my shoulder to let me know that the massage was finished. And when I got up, I’ve never felt as good as I did – almost like a new man that nobody’s ever met.

It was incredible.

As I’m writing this, I’m pretty sad I didn’t get the name of my masseuse because if I can fly her from Bali to Chicago, I would. And probably ask her to stay…forever (Don’t tell the Trump that though…)

When you are in paradise and been baking out in the sun all day, it’s not a bad idea to visit Sofitel Bali’s Beauty Clinic to make sure you are still looking fresh after all that sun exposure 😉

I had great fun at Vietura. I was given free consultation prior to my facial treatment, by a very beautiful doctor with amazing skin. I’ve never seen skin as flawless as hers and add to the mix of her exotic beauty and the way she eloquently expressed her knowledge and expertise , I was almost hypnotized. takemeback
